Lukas Mensator (G) - Prospects unlimited
April 12th, 2008 by thewordbirdNot much is known about young goaltender, Lukas Mensator. After starring for his country in the Under-18 World Championships in 2001-02 and leading the Ottawa 67’s into the OHL Finals the next year, Mensator headed home to the Czech Republic.
Floundering around as a second and third-string goalie for Karlovy Vary of the Extraliga, Mensator has posted some nice numbers, though inconsistently. Turning twenty-four years old this August, he has yet to snare a starting role with Karlovy and has bounced around in the second-tier Czech League for the past couple seasons before getting a backup role in Karlovy Vary again and posting a .930 save percentage and 2.50 GAA in 38 games this year.
Scouts rave about Lukas’ agility and aggressive style in-between the pipes. Vancouver’s 3rd round selection in 2002 is small in stature and relies on his athleticism to make saves. Whether or not he arrives to play on North American soil next season will dictate if the Canucks offer him a contract.

I highly doubt Mensator will be coming overseas. With Luongo tied up for the next couple of years goaltending should not be an issue, and with Cory Schneider and Drew MacIntyre in the pipeline I don’t see why Mensator would come overseas or why Nonis would bother with him. He is an ECHL-calibre goalie at best right now and will quite possibly never crack an NHL lineup. He is just dead weight if he comes overseas.
