Gagner brought aboard
June 19th, 2008 by thewordbirdDave Gagner has been added to the growing staff of the Canucks. His new ‘desk’ was the one previously occupied by Stan ‘the Steamer’ Smyl, whose number adorns the rafters in GM Place. Smyl will oversee the collegiate scouting and will report to Gagner, Director of Player Development.
Gagner was once a Canuck, acquired in the Pavel Bure deal with Florida, and enjoyed a lengthy career with seven teams. The 43 year-old has ties with GM Gillis, as he was once represented by Gillis, and the Vancouver GM was also Dave’s son and superstar in the making Sam Gagner’s agent recently.
I believe strongly that this hiring is of the best the club could make and that Gagner is especially adept at his job. His playing career reeks of honesty and skill and his ties of late in London, Ontario is of particular interest. Not only did Dave coach with the extremely successful London Knights in the OHL the past couple years (record breakers and NHL star factory of late), but his centre for player development helps minor, junior and minor profressional players to acclimate themselves to their career and make the transition to the National Hockey League.
