Canucks at Team Canada World Junior camp
August 11th, 2008 by thewordbirdForgetting the speculation that Cody Hodgson has stated that it is his intention to work hard and be a character guy in order to make the Vancouver Canucks this fall, Hodgson joins defenseman Yann Sauve in the Team Canada World Junior selection camp.
The two were recently selected in the first and second rounds (respectively) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and are seen as marginal players to make the team. Personally, every interview that radiates with both confidence and a big smile - I find it hard to believe that Hodgson would not make the squad. His two-way game makes a bottom six forward spot a definate possibility and he is an extremely coachable player. That coupled with his character and leadership abilities makes Hodgson a tough kid to leave off of the roster. Who knows, they may be forced to if he forces his way onto the Vancouver Canucks this fall-but that would be a stretch.
As for Sauve’s chances, well, this is a deep defence (eight 1st-rounders) with the names of Alex Pietrangelo (STL), Colton Teubert (LA), P.K. Subban (MTL) and Tyler Myers (BUF). That list includes Drew Doughty (LA), Nick Ross (PHX) and Luke Schenn (TOR)-IF they do not make their National Hockey League clubs this fall.
