better ideas
August 18th, 2008 by thewordbirdThe Canucks will get a better idea with how some of their young prospects have developed and the mindset of the youngsters when the rookie camp opens a week ahead in advance of the main camp at UBC on the 13th and 14th of September.
They then head to Camrose, AB. to faceoff in a mini-tournament against the Flames’ and Oilers’ prospects on the 15th and 16th.
Canucks’ training camp opens on September 20th, 2008. Players vying for jobs will not be the only new faces, of course. Forward Pavol Demitra is a free-agent signing; Steve Bernier and Kyle Wellwood will also be looking to impress their values on the coaching staff, which includes newly appointed Darryl Williams.
An impressive resume that includes 4 years as the St. John’s Fog Devils’(QMJHL) Strength & Conditioning Coach alongside his duties as Associate Coach and Video Coordinator. Williams has many leagues (UHL, AHL) under his belt with experience as Head Coach and Assistant Coach and an 11 year playing career. His duties will be limited to video coordination and referral to the others on the coaching staff, I presume. Perhaps the injury woes from the previous season will be headed-off, as Williams has strength and conditioning experience. Training camp will not help though, as it a staggering two days before meeting the Oilers in the first preseason game!
