Larry Brooks war mongers some more

August 18th, 2008 by thewordbird

In an effort to create more hype and in order to ’scoop’ the Sundin story from everyone else, reporter Larry Brooks has cited ‘credible’ sources and has announced that Mats would like to sign for the Blueshirts on Broadway.

While New York would seem like a good fit for Mats and boasts both Markus Naslund and Henrik Lundqvist, the math just does not add up. So, IF this were to happen, Glen Sather would have to move some pieces around. The Rangers likely would not have to pay the reported $10 Million/season the Vancouver Canucks offered. Sather was one of a couple teams (Montreal) that chose to make a play for the exclusive negotiating rights for Sundin.

J.P. Barry, Sundin’s agent, denied the reports. But, so would I. Actually, the source probably just reported what he heard on Barry’s voice mail. This whole scenario has grown tiresome. But stay tuned, as the decision MUST be made soon. Training camp opens for the big guys on September 20th, 2008 in Whistler.

Will he play for the love of the game, and forgo the paycheck? Now that would be interesting.
