how do you do? - Don a new jersey….Cody
November 14th, 2008 by thewordbirdWith the 4th longest NHL shutout streak in the books and another point earned in the standings, the Canucks, Wild and Flames sit atop the Northwest Division standings with 19 points. It is going to be a dogfight, as the other respective leaders have accumulated 29 (SJ), 26 (NYR), 23 (BOS), 23 (DET), and 20 (WSH) points. The 5 point gap between worst and first in the NW is by far the least. The Canucks have played in 16 contests, the Flames 18, and the Wild only 14.
Vancouver will insert Pavol Demitra into the lineup as soon as when they weolcome Toronto into GM Place at 4 pm for the early edition of Hockey Night in Canada. I expect this to be an outstanding game. The Leafs are playing extraordinarily well under Ron Sutter’s tutelage and youthful exuberance is always welcome to shoot on Roberto Luongo - it makes great theatre. The Canucks are the hottest team in their division with a 6-3-1 record in the last ten and are 5-2-1 in friendly confines. However, Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa are making themselves available to be Injured Reserve candidates once again. Rob Davison will undoubtedly be in the lineup Saturday.
A third jersey has been introduced by many teams and the Canucks photo gallery of Mattias Ohlund and Willie Mitchell is here. It is a very safe edition that will sell quite well I expect and I do like the direction and the historical aspect. A little safe, but how they integrated the V (Vancouver Millionaireespue) and the Johnny Canuck is a great little nod. More could’ve been done, but hey-they could have went with a salmon coloured one as seen before….yikes!
Brampton Battalion forward Cody Hodgson was also named OHL Player of the Week. After a ’slow’ start, Hodgson has ripped netminders for 22 points in 12 games this season, including 12 goals. Canucks fans should rejoice in the fact that Cody’s incredible week saw him put up nine points (5 goals and 4 assists, +6 rating) in his 3 games last week to earn the OHL’s recognition.
